Monaro Community First is a trusted community organisation that provides eligible individuals with disability to gain appropriate interdependence to improve their quality of life.

Our comprehensive services, from community-focused group activities to individualised support and comfortable residential services, are designed to empower people to live independently and confidently.
To apply for NDIS, individuals need to be younger than 65 years of age when first applying.

Community engagement services under the NDIS
Our NDIS funded services aim to help individuals with disability gain more time with family and friends, greater independence and appropriate interdependence. Our services allow eligible people to access new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and experience an improved quality of life.

Comfort and community
Supported Independent Living (SIL) or Supported Independent Option (ILO)
Monaro Community First has a 24/7 group home and supported living services, designed to provide a comfortable living environment while promoting independence and upholding dignity.
SIL services in Cooma
Under the NDIS, SIL provides help and supervision with daily tasks to enable individuals to live as independently as possible. This may include assisting with daily tasks such as personal care, cooking, and household chores. SIL aims to help individuals build skills and increase independence.
Our SIL houses are located in Cooma and are group homes designed for 2 to 3 NDIS participants to share comfortably. We promote and encourage opportunities for everyone living in the group home to be part of the of the local community.
ILO services in Cooma
Under the NDIS, ILO supports individuals to live the way that suits them. This is a flexible approach for individuals to design their own living arrangements and informal supports.
Our ILO houses are located in Cooma and are group homes designed for 2 to 3 NDIS participants to share comfortably. We promote and encourage opportunities for everyone living in the group home to be part of the local community.
Empowering independence
Personalised Support Coordination and Plan Management
As part of our funding, Monaro Community First operates Support Coordination and Plan Management as a separate part of our organisation, providing NDIS participants with greater choice when it comes to their service provider and how they can best use their supports as part of their plan.
NDIS Support Coordination in the Snowy Monaro region
Our Support Coordinators help individuals make the best use of their NDIS plan to pursue their goals and choose their service provider. Support Coordinators provide NDIS participants with greater access to choice and control around the supports in their plan.
Support coordination is a capacity building service which helps individuals to:
- Understand and use their NDIS plan to pursue their goals.
- Connect them with NDIS providers, community, mainstream and other government services.
- Build their confidence and skills to use and coordinate their supports.
To enable this service, a Service Level Agreement must be signed between the NDIS participant and Monaro Community First’s Support Coordinators.
NDIS Plan Management in the Snowy Monaro region
Plan management is a service funded through the NDIS for NDIS participants. The purpose of the service is to assist and support NDIS participants to manage their NDIS plan funding.
Plan management can support individuals by:
- Managing and monitoring their budget.
- Managing any NDIS claims in accordance with National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) pricing arrangements and the NDIA price limits document.
- Ensuring funds are spent in line with their plan and budgets.
- Providing regular statements to show the financial status of their plan.
This service is led by our Plan Manager who operates separately from our organisation to ensure NDIS participants have access to choice and control over the management of their plan and supports.
